Tina Turner

by Abbey

Tina Turner never gave up and never stopped believing in herself, especially when hard times came.

Tina’s life as a youngster was challenging. Growing up as Anna Mae Bullock, she worked beside her father Floyd, her mother Zelma, and her sister Eileen, picking cotton and strawberries. Her birthday is November 26, 1939. She was born in Nutbush, Tennessee.

Tina also had to go through challenges. First, she had to deal with school, work and concerts with the band. At one point, no record company would work with her. She decided to divorce Ike because he was trying to take over her life. Now that she was alone she had to cancel many concerts. That meant her sponsors lost thousands of dollars. Tina had to pay them back. She agreed to make a record to pay them back, but the producers decided to only give her two weeks to make it.

Three heroic traits Tina has are that her Asian Buddhist religion kept her going. Tina is a hard worker and survivor. Tina is a survivor because she went through many obstacles like Ike changing her name. Tina’s real name is Anna Mae Bullock. When she won her Grammy, she knew the work had been worth it. She definitely has ambition. She was able to go from working in cotton and strawberry fields, to becoming a professional singer.

Tina contributed to the music industry in a variety of ways. She helped Ike and the Kings of Rhythm become more famous by being the lead singer in the band. Tina also produced the best selling records, many of which she won awards for. One of her biggest contributions was when She made a record for USA for Africa. USA for Africa is a program to help raise money for Africans who need food and medicine. Tina also won four Grammy awards. Her album “Private Dancer” won three awards: Record of the year, Best Female pop vocal performer and Best female rock performance. Tina also won Hardest working women in Rock and Roll.

In conclusion, Tina Turner is an inspiration to young singers so they can believe in themselves and to do the best they can.
