"I can't find words to express what it has meant for me to understand that taking responsibility is key to changing your life."

My Hero Tyler Perry

I first noticed my hero, Tyler Perry, on national television. Then I saw him again on another live television show, Oprah. When I first listened to his story I thought, “Tyler did not seem to have done anything extraordinary, but open a black theater.” Although as I researched and learned about him further, I began to become inspired by how he succeeded in life. I could relate to him personally, coming from a poor family, and being abused ever since he was little. Even the fact that he was living in a car eight years ago, touched my heart. I felt for him because he got kicked out of his home by his parents. He blamed his lack of success on this. He took charge of his life and moved out on his own, even knowing he would be living in his car.

Tyler is important to me because he is my role model and I look up to this guy. Also I want to be an actor and a director when I grow up and I need to be inspired by someone to not give up whether you’re rich or poor and that’s Tyler Perry. My hero Tyler lives in Atlanta. He hasn’t made a difference in anybody's life really, but he did open the first black theater and he inspires me and others.

A young man was born on September 13, 1969 and became a successful black man. Tyler Perry was born and raised in New Orleans and was one of four children. As a young child, he was abused physically by his parents and in poverty. Also he was kicked out of the house for blaming them for his lack of achievement in life. Then he lived in his car about eight years ago. Also he stopped blaming his family and friends of him failing in life, he started to comfort them. Tyler Perry was watching The Oprah Winfrey show one day. As he was watching, it said to put your feelings in a letter, and that’s how his letters soon became famous plays.

Additionally Tyler Perry saved about $1,200, moved to Atlanta in 1992 and tried to stage his play "I Know I’ve Been Changed," which is about adult survivors of child abuse. It did not achieve anything so Tyler Perry struggled for six years living in Atlanta. He was poor and homeless. Eventually in 1998 his play had a successful run. Then his career shot up in the air. Before he knew it, he had plays, movies, DVDs, books out and he directed his own movies and plays that are now very sucessful and popular.

The female character Madea Simmons is created and played by Tyler Perry. She’s an aggressive, threatening women who will argue with anyone. In addition the main character in all of Tyler Perry’s movies and plays, Mabel “Madea” Simmons, was based on his aunt in Houston - as well as his mother. Tyler Perry is my hero, because he inspires me.
