USC-MISC joins MY HERO Project to host 10th Annual MY HERO International Film Festival
Los Angeles, CA- The MY HERO Project will celebrate their 10th Annual MY HERO International Film Fest at SCA on Nov. 22. For the 10th Anniversary, the USC Media Institute for Social Change will join MY HERO as they award prizes for a wide variety of socially conscious categories and celebrate films that make a difference by honoring storytellers who can become powerful heroes themselves.
“Both our organizations strive to make positive differences through media,” says USC-MISC founder Michael Taylor on USC-MISC’s new partnership with MY HERO. “We have always had a goal to support the next generation of socially conscious media makers and MHIFF presents a wonderful opportunity to do so.”
Last year, the MHIFF received hundreds of entries in a wide range of categories, ranging from narrative to student documentaries. The festival offers special awards such as the Ron Kovic Peace Prize, the Dan Eldon Activist Award, and the Engage Award presented by Life Giving Moments. MY HERO also collaborated with One World One Ocean to create the Sylvia Earle Ocean Conservation award, in honor of renowned marine biologist Sylvia Earle. Winning films best exemplified the spirit of these awards: peace, activism, youth achievements, and ocean stewardship, respectively.
This year, MHIFF will also introduce a new prize: The Relationships First Award presented by the Foundation for the Contemporary Family for a short film that depicts in an innovative way the powerful and poignant connections in all types of contemporary family relationships. Prize amount $1,500.00!
The final deadline for submissions is Sept. 1.
