DJ Umek

My hero is deejay Umek. I picked him because he is from my country Slovenia. He inspires me because he has succeeded in a small country like Slovenia. He didn't give up, he tried harder and now he is in the top 100 deejays in the world.

He has been in this list for a few years now. The first time was in year 2007,and he was in 27th place! That is a really great position. This year he was at 97 position, which is good but not like it was in 2007. In 2009 he was nominated for DJ awards, with the biggest names of techno music like Carl Cox and Sven Vath. He was born in 1976 in Ljubljana. But he is not just a deejay, he is also a producer and a musician. His real name is Uros Umek.

He has also played at my favourite festival in the world called Tomorrowland. He also has a traditional DJ set in Ljubljana in hala Tivoli. I like other electronic music more than techno, but Umek makes techno feel special.

His deejaying career started in the 90s. People called him "fotr" . His deejay career started when he was 17 years old. He was the pioneer of electronic music in Slovenia. He became famous in Europe with the help of other techno deejays of the world. His biggest hit is "Posing as me". He has a reputation as an innovator, because he has made so many different songs with different beats. He is also known by the fact that he can perform on 4 turntables at the same time. On his birthday 16th May he organised a musical event called Dan elektronike (Electronic day) . He is the owner of 2 records called Consumer recreation and Recycled loops. Some people regard Umek as one of the best 10 techno deejays in the world.
