Vincent Van Gogh

by Allie from Williamsville

"If there's a voice inside you telling you not to paint, then by all means, paint. If you paint, the voice will go away." said Van Gogh. Vincent Van Gogh is in the painter group of heroes. Vincent Van Gogh was an artist, and a very good one at that. Vincent Van Gogh is a hero. He is a hero because he was a major artist. He made many paintings, made money off of them ( though not as much as they sell for today.), he got a terrible illness, but he survived. Vincent Van Gogh is a hero.

In his childhood, Vincent Willem Van Gogh was born on March Thirtieth, Eighteen Fifty Three. He was the fifth of thirteen children! His mother's name was Anna Cornelia Carbentus Van Gogh and his father's name is Theodorus Van Gogh. He was born in Groot Zundert, which is in the province of Brabant, which is in Holland. It is a very, very tiny city. His ancestors were of Dutch bourgeois stock. He went to school at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. He made a sketch of a cat and a clay elephant. When his parents praised him for them, he inexplicably destroyed them. He liked to draw as a kid and drew many things. Vincent Van Gogh had a depressing childhood.

In his field of artistry, he made paintings, sold them, he was head of an Artist's Colony, which is sort of like an ant colony, but with people that enjoy art, used oils to paint, he painted with his brother, some said he was the best artist in the world, he has many fans and he has a whole museum devoted to him. He did many things in his field of artistry.

Vincent Van Gogh had faced many obstacles in his life. Usually he didn't have enough money to feed himself properly. Also, one day, he cut his ear off accidentally with a razor. Another thing is that he got a debilitating disease, and he almost died. He was curled up under the sheets and had fallen into a deep sleep. That was just three of the challenges he faced in life. Also, he did not do many things for the community. He made paintings, he sold them, people liked them. But, he helped people from the mines who got injured. If they were hurt, he would try his best to help them, and he used to be a preacher. As you can see, he didn't do many things for the community.

Today, Vincent Van Gogh is recognized as an artist. He has a whole museum devoted to him! It is called the Rijksmuseum. He did not do many things for the community. He made paintings, he sold them, people liked them. But, he helped people from the mines who got injured. If they were hurt, he would try his best to help them, and he used to be a preacher. One of his paintings (Portrait of Dr. Gatchet,) sold for eighty two point five million dollars! That is the highest amount of money ever paid for a painting! Vincent Van Gogh's millions of admirers around the world can attest how well he succeeded in being an artist. He did many things that I admire in his field of artistry.

Vincent Van Gogh has many good character traits. He is an amazing artist, and when he grew up, he got even better. He was also socially awkward. Surprisingly, this helped him become a great artist. You see, he wasn't very good at expressing himself verbally, but he poured all of his emotions and things into his paintings. Usually, he painted what interested him, so when he saw this family eating nothing but potatoes, it inspired him to paint the picture The Potato Eaters. And finally, he was a genius. A maddened one, but a genius. He started out bad, but when he found a valley in Arles, he became a great artist. He drew wildflowers, painted sunflowers, and sketched daisies. Those were just three character traits of Vincent Van Gogh.

As you can see, Vincent Van Gogh was a hero. In fact, he is my role-model. He was a hero because when he arrived in hard times, he faced challenges and didn't run away from them. When I grow up I want to be like him for that reason. Also, I want to be like him because he excelled at drawing. I wish that I was as good as he was!
