Valentina receives an award (Alabama Virtual Library) |
Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman in space. She was chosen to be an astronaut, because they thought she could represent women of the world in space. Her experience as an amateur parachutist who worked in an textile factory helped her succeed. She was born in Maslennikovo and lived in Moscow.
When I get older I will be able to do adventurous things like she did. I can be an astronaut or even an amateur parachutist. This is important to me because back then women couldn't be astronauts. Now we can. Now we can do what she did. We can be what she was.
Now because of her we can be an astronaut. So why shouldn't we do what she did and have fun.
