Vijay Vachani

by Sabrina from Burlingame

Vijay Vachani is my brother. He is one of the most dedicated, and motivated people I have ever met.  As a young performer at Adda Clevenger Preparatory Arts elementary school, he has always had a very outgoing and comfortable personality instilled in him.  He attended Crystal Springs Uplands School followed by Cornell University, graduating as an economics major. Before graduation, Vijay received a job offer at Google, where he worked for two years, and decided to leave. At the age of 25 he is currently working at an online start up company called StumbleUpon as the business development manager. In a couple of months, he will be moving back and working in the New York StumbleUpon office.

You may be wondering, why did he leave Google? A place where such a large percent of job applications are denied. Like I said, he is one of the most motivated people I have ever met. He left Google because he felt he wasn't being challenged enough. Always exceeding expectations, but his promotions were still never enough for him, he remained bored. In order for my big brother to be happy, life must be a challenge. To me, he his a person of faith because I find this such an admirable quality. My brother always goes after what he wants and is the perfect role model. Ever since I was little, I have wanted to follow his footsteps.

Now Vijay works at StumbleUpon, and is so much happier. It's a smaller company, but he's satisfied because his job is actually contributing. He gets to talk to many different companies about selling his product, convincing them to advertise the company. For a while in the middle, he was moved to a higher position where he was able to actually work on the product. He came up with good results in his new position, but he didn't enjoy it. Deciding to move back as business development manager, allowing him to use his social skills also leaves a professional mark for the company. In New York, there will only be 4 other people in his office, and he is okay with this because he is happy and always stimulated.
