Vassili Zaitsev

by Dylon from Cornwall

Everyone has their own definition of a hero. To some people, when they hear the word "Hero", they picture capes, tights and can fly but that's not a true hero. Sure that's how it works in all the popular movies like Thor or Superman, but you aren't realizing what a hero really is. It's not what someone does that makes them heroic, it's the reasons to why they do it, the right ones. For instance, World War II's Soviet, Vassili Zaitsev, who fought for the right reasons and really did a great job from the heart, as a soldier.

Vassili, born March 23, 1915, in Yeleninskoye in the Chelyabinsk region whose family was poor and owned only a small piece or land for farming, otherwise known as peasants. He and his younger brother started hunting at a young age. Their hunting knowledge was given by their grandfather. They would spent most of their days shadowing wolves and surviving in the snow of the northern conifer forest known as Siberia. Vassili earned his first kill at the age of twelve. A one shot kill with a large single barrelled Brendan rifle to a wolf he could barely carry. Ever since then, he was able to hunt with one bullet per animal which lead to his fame as a gunman.

There are a lot of traits that make Vassili Vaitsez a true hero. Well for one, he's smart. He was always one step ahead of his enemies, knowing what they'd do or their next move. Second of all, he's careful. He did not die through war, he died a natural death long after. Third of all, he was brave. If he was one of those soldiers that hid from the enemies, he would not havebeen as successful as he was when he was brave. Fourth of all, he's good. He does not break the law, he was always a good person and he only fought in the war too protect his country, unlike others who enjoyed seeing blood poor form a mans wounds. Last of all, he's talented. Some say he was the best sharpshooter in the game, he killed 224 Germans, point proven.

I believe Vassili earned the title of a hero without a doubt. Well he was such an inspiration to the Soviets. He was gifted with his marksman abilities and it just gave the Red Army something to believe in. Even when they were in a slump, Vassili still helped and supported what he believed in, his country.

In my opinion, Vassili Zaitsez is the perfect definition of a real life hero. My proof is, he displays a huge amount of bravery just fighting, yet he went above and beyond, risking his life every day for his country. Now if that doesn't have you convinced that Vassili Zaitsev is a true hero, there's not much that will.
