Wilt was known as Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain. In his younger years he always got picked on because of his height, his parents even called him the "Big Dipper". Wilt was granted to play in the NBA right out of highschool, but he chose to play with Kansas for four years. Then Senior year he decided to play in the NBA. Wilt Chamberlain overcame many obstacles in his life and still was able to make it to the NBA, that's why he is my hero.
Wlit grew up in a poor town. He was born in August 21, 1936. Wilt was born 6" longer than the average length of a baby. He went to a little school named Overbrook high school in Philadelphia, this is where he started his journey to be one of the best basketball players in the world.
When it came time for college, Chamberlain was brought after by many top college basketball teams. He chose to go to the University of Kansas, making his college basketball debut on the Jayhawks in 1956, from here he played for 4 years and after his college years he chose to go to the NBA. His first team were the Harlem Globetrotters but after a year he chose to get a spot on the Philadelphia Warriors.
Chamberlain's most famous season, however, came in 1962. That March, he scored his first 100 point game. By seasons end, Chamberlain racked up more than 4,000 points and becoming the first NBA player to do so, scoring an average of 50.4 points per game. This is one of the reasons he is my hero because no one has ever scored 100 points in a NBA game.
These are all the reasons why I think Wilt Chamberlain is my hero. Even when he grew up in poverty he still overcame it and made it to play in the NBA. Also, Wilt overcame getting picked all the time because of his height.
