Winston Churchill

by Sam Dobbin from Toronto

"You have enemies? Good, that means you stood up for something, sometime in your life"

Sam Dobbin Mr. MacRae ASM2O-1 December 14, 2011 Winston Churchill

Winston Churchill was quite possibly the most important and the best British Prime Minister in History. He was essential in coming out of World War 2 the way we did. He foresaw the danger of Hitler and his Nazi Regime long before any other politician did and was regarded as an idiot until, of course, Hitler's true aim of invading the whole world and getting rid of a lot of minorities. Winston Churchill was also able to take very short naps in the day so he could stay up later at night working. "You must sleep sometime between lunch and dinner, and no halfway measures. Take off your clothes and get into bed. That's what I always do. Don't think you will be doing less work because you sleep during the day. That's a foolish notion held by people who have no imaginations. You will be able to accomplish more. You get two days in one - well, at least one and a half." - Winston Churchill

Churchill was also very famous for his quotes. Perhaps his best quote was: "You have enemies? Good, that means you stood up for something, sometime in your life." - Winston Churchill

A lot of people nowadays think this quote if from the popular artist Eminem, who took off the last three words of this quote and repeated it. Churchill was also a fairly comical man who was very good with responding to insults. "Winston, if you were my husband I would poison your coffee!"- Lady Astor "Ma'am, If you were my wife I would drink it"- Winston Churchill

As well as: "Sir, you are drunk"- Bessie Braddock (British Politician) "And you, Bessie, are ugly. But I shall be sober in the morning, and you will still be ugly" – Winston Churchill

Churchill was elected Prime Minister mainly because the Prime Minister he succeeded (Neville Chamberlain) actually supported Hitler as Winston Churchill was warning against him. When people realized Churchill had been right for so long and he was elected Prime Minister he stepped up and worked hard day and night until the war was over. He was extremely relentless in his work.
"Never, Never, Never Give Up" –Winston Churchill
His wisdom and the way he ran his country was absolutely essential in stopping Hitler's quest for world domination and he was essential in keeping our land ours. Britain was one of the first countries to enter WWII followed by Canada and then America. Because he did such a great job he should be regarded as a hero and I definitely consider him to be one. He was a funny man but at the same time he was possibly working more hours than anyone else in London and had the most stressful and important job.
