Military seemed like a bad idea for Winston Churchill in the beginning. It took him three attempts to get a passing grade on his exam to get into the British Royal College. When finally he got in, he flourished. He graduated 20th, out of his class of 130 (Winston Churchill Biography 2015). Winston Churchill was born into an Aristocratic family, meaning they had great wealth. Winston was a hero because he was selfless to people who weren't as fortunate as himself and he was gallant because he helped Britain pull through the wars.

Winston Churchill was born November 30, 1874 (Winston Churchill Biography 2015). When Churchill was 21, his father passed away (Winston Churchill Biography 2015) . This made him grow apart from his mother and he began relying on his friends. This led to him becoming a good leader because he was able to work well with others. His selflessness was what kept him from getting into military school at first, yet it is what makes him heroic today, but this selflessness is not the only reason he is heroic.

Winston Churchill quote (https://mbtijunkie.wordpress.com ()) |
Winston Churchill is a hero to many because he was selfless and gallant. Churchill was Prime Minister during the end of World War 1 and the beginning of World War 2, this made him a hero of this time because Great Britain needed a leader or they would have to surrender to Hitler and the German army.History.com stated that although Winston was born into an aristocratic family, he chose to help the less fortunate in society. This evidence supports the fact that Winston was selfless because although his family was aristocratic he helped out with services that helped others that were less privileged than himself. In addition to him being selfless, Winston was also gallant. A source stated, "In a speech in Fulton, Missouri, in 1946, for example, Churchill declared that an anti-democratic 'Iron Curtain' a growing challenge and peril to Christian civilization,"( History.com). This piece of text evidence shows that he was gallant because it showed him standing up for the Christian civilization in front of the world. So in light of this information, Winston Churchill was and still is today a hero to many people due to him being gallant in his actions and selfless.

Within weeks of his enrollment at his military school, Winston joined the Harrow Rifle Corps. A military career group (Winston Churchill Biography 2015). This act took gallantry, which is another word for bravery. To want a military career can become dangerous, especially for someone like Winston, who had a caring heart. Yet in the future, Winston led Britain into battle, and although many were killed because of him on the enemy line, his caring heart did not interfere because he cared about Great Britain.
