Walt Disney, when you hear the name what comes to mind? Artist, Cartoons, Probably even Walt Disney’s greatest attraction “Disneyland.” Walt Disney was once a young child whose dream was to be a cartoon animation artist, thinking of his goal to create the amusement park that would entertain families. When Walt was young, he had an interesting life. “Walt, the fourth child in a family of five children was the son of a Canadian father and a mother from Ohio. Born in Chicago, Walt grew up on his uncle’s farm near Marceline, Missouri, one hundred miles northeast of Kansas City. In later years he recalled the pleasure of growing up on this farm and used many of the farm animals he knew well in his animated cartoons” (“Disney, Walt” Discovery). Walt was a pretty unique child, living on a farm is something different and interesting about Walt, especially when his creative mind of animation cartoons were just animals on the farm he grew up on.

But, maybe you're thinking why is Walt a hero? Well, Walt wasn’t just a cartoon artist, Walt did more than have a dream he followed. “During the fall of 1918, Disney attempted to enlist for military service. Rejected because he was only 16 years of age, Walt joined the Red Cross and was sent overseas, where he spent a year driving an ambulance and chauffeuring Red Cross officials. His ambulance was covered from stem to stem, not with stock camouflage, but with drawings and cartoons” (“Disney, Walt” Website). Not only did a person like Walt help by being part of the Red Cross, but he also decorated his ambulance truck with his unique cartoon drawings. As Walt advertised his art on an ambulance truck, Walt did more to show his art to the world to create his dream. “After World War I, Walt returned to Kansas City from his year as an ambulance driver, where he began his career as an advertising cartoonist. In 1920, he created and marketed his first original animated cartoon, and later perfected a new method for combining live-action and animation” (“Disney, Walt” Biography). Walt was a smart man, knowing what to do to succeed his dream. Walt is a hero because throughout all his actions he tells one thing, showing us that even when you’re young and there’s something you love to do, follow it. Follow your dreams!

After Walt followed his dream during his young years, Walt became big. Soon creating a theme park for entertainment, “Walter [Walt] Elias Disney (1901 – 1966), a cartoonist, visionary, and founder of Disneyland and Disney enterprises” (“Disney, Walt” History). Turning out to be the [First] Cartoon Animation Artist, Walt’s Dream of becoming an Animation Artist Succeeded.

So in conclusion, Walter “Walt” Elias Disney is a hero because he teaches us to follow our dreams. Following your dreams might turn out to be a good thing in the future, After all Walter’s hard accomplishments to make his dream happen, Walt became one of the first successful cartoon animation artists and showed that following your dream can lead to something good.
