About Walt Disney

Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901. His father, Elias Disney, his mother, Flora Call Disney, and his four brothers and a sister all lived in Chicago, Illinois. After Disney was born, the whole family moved to Marcelline, Missouri. When he was seven years old, he sold sketches and drawings to his neighbors. He got so interested in drawing that he asked his sister, Ruth to help him paint. As he got older, he attended McKinley High School to learn more about drawing. In order to improve his drawing skills, he also attended Academy of Fine Arts. After he saw a movie about Christ while walking down the street, he began to dream about making his own movie.

After his family moved to Kansas City, he still had an interest in drawing. He also had an interest in acting and performing. During his free time at school, he would draw pictures and tell stories to his classmates. He wanted people to know about his work, so he would sneak out to local theaters to show his skits. When he was sixteen, he wanted to join the military service, but he was too young to join. Later on he decided to join the Red Cross and went to France. After he set foot on France, he wanted a career in comical art. Soon after, he made The Alice Comedies. Producing this short film made himself and his company bankrupt. He decided not to give up and went to Hollywood to start a new business.

Soon after he went to Hollywood, The Alice Comedies was accepted. This success made Walt Disney create even more movies including Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Marry Poppins, etc.On July 13, 1925 Walt Disney married one of his employees, Lillian Bounds. After having two daughters, he got an idea of making a Disney character, Mickey Mouse. As he got more and more into making movies, he wanted to have a neat, and organized amusement park for everyone to have fun. Walt Disney's dream came true in 1955 as the seventeen million dollars amusement park opened for everyone to enjoy having fun in.

Before he died on December 15, 1966, he was able to buy another piece of land in Florida and open another theme park called "Disney World." Walt Disney brought great happiness to everyone including adults and children. He inspired a lot of people to take after him making more movies to let audiences enjoy watching more Disney movies. His invention of Disney characters brought smiles to people's faces.
