Walt Disney was a hero because he persevered through his tough background and gave people the encouragement for a better life. From his quirky quotes to his creation of the "Happiest place on earth" (Disney), Walt encouraged people to live life to the fullest. He once said, "All the adversity I've had in my life, all my troubles and obstacles, have strengthened me... You may not realize it when it happens, but a kick in the teeth may be the best thing in the world for you"(Disney). These words of wisdom can inspire kids and show them the optimistic side of life. Walt Disney has been a hero ever since he opened his first animation studio in 1923. Walt has suffered through his brothers running away, having his rights to his first character stolen, and his first business going bankrupt. However he still created the "Happiest place on earth", and gave children the hope of a better life.

The fourth of the Disney family was born on December 5th, 1901. Walt Disney had a rough background. Walt grew up poor with 4 siblings. When he was 4 his two older brothers ran away due to the constant work and deprivations. He lived most of his life in Marceline, Missouri, where he started to sell his drawings, paintings, and pictures to family and friends. His family moved to Kansas in 1911, where he met his uncle, Mike Martin. Mike worked as a train engineer and inspired Walt's love for trains. Walt attended McKinley High School in Chicago, where he took art and drawing classes. At night, however he went to Chicago Art Institute and took courses. When he was 16 he lied about his age and tried to join the army. He got rejected and instead joined the Red Cross. When in the Red Cross, he got stationed in France for a year driving ambulances. All of Walt Disney's background led him to drawing and creating one of the most well known motion picture companies in the world, and the "Happiest place on earth."

Walt encouraged children to have a better life by doing charity work and hosting parties for children who'd been struggling with medical issues. In his earlier years, he volunteered at the Children's Hospital in Los Angeles. Walt and some of his co-workers called themselves the "voluntEARS". They would go to the hospital to draw and entertain the children, who were going through surgeries or recovering from illnesses. He gave the children something to look forward to, he was the light at the end of their tunnel of darkness. He would encourage the kids to believe that everything would get better, and to believe that when they got out of the hospital that they would live a better life. He would also host an annual Christmas party for the children, the staff, and their families at the hospital. He brought encouragement to the children and families that had been struggling through rough times, he said that things would get better, like his did.

Walt Disney was a hero to many including me. A hero is a person who has made a difference in your life or inspires you in some way through their actions or words. Walt Disney inspired me to persevere and not to give up on my hopes and dreams. He always said, "All our dreams can come true, if we have the courage to pursue them." (Disney) This is one of the many quotes that inspired me to keep moving on. He was a huge role model for me and other kids. He created "the happiest place on earth," and was a true inspiration for me and many others.
