Walt Disney was an inspiring man who created a world of fiction and fantasy for children of all ages to enjoy. His imagination lighted a spark that grew like a wildfire, and that wildfire enlightened the world with great characters, lots of humor, and full-on fun! His dream to create a clean, fun, and entertaining theme park came true because of his determination to be unlike every other theme park.

Walter Elias Disney was born in the big city of Chicago, Illinois on December 5, 1901. Walt had an older brother named Roy Disney. Walt started his cartooning career by creating advertisements for local newspapers, books, and movie theaters. During his small career, he met Ubbe Iwerks, who he would work with for the rest of his career. In the 1920's, Disney and Iwerks created a small cartooning business called "Iwerks-Disney Commercial Artists," but the company went downhill very quickly because Walt had to leave the company early so he could make money for "The Kansas City Film Ad Company," and Ubbe couldn't hold up the business alone, so he joined Walt and sold the company.

Walt started his major career with the Kansas City Ad Film Company. He created shorts called "Newman Laugh-O-Grams." Then, when he gave that up, he created his own editing company with his brother, Roy, called "The Disney Brothers' Studio," later to be named "The Walt Disney Studios." He created shorts with a character called Oswald the Friendly Rabbit, but Universal stole him and stole most of Disney's best animators, except Iwerks. They created a short with the character Mickey Mouse, which created Walt's fame.

Walt's first full-length picture was called "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs." Later came "Pinocchio," "Fantasia," "Dumbo," and "Bambi." He also created shorts based off of Alice in Wonderland. Also, Walt had always dreamed of an Ice princess movie, so he drew the storyboards, but the were put away for years because they thought making another princess movie would be a bad idea. Those would later turn into Frozen.

He dreamed of a clean and amazing theme park, and his dream came true. It was called Disneyland. His goal for Disneyland was for it to be a clean, well-organized park that people would never get sick of and enjoy over and over again.  Disneyland had many lands and themes, and everybody enjoyed them. As Walt Disney said, "Disneyland will never be completed. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world." Walt had his own apartment in the park and he basically lived at Disneyland.

Walt died on December 15, 1966 from lung cancer at the age of 65. He died during the production of the movie "The Jungle Book," and during the making of the ride "The Pirates of the Caribbean. His legacy still lives on today. The Disney company had made millions of people laugh, cry, and feel joy, just like Walt did. The Disneyland park has grown hugely, with new rides and enjoyment. Disney parks have also been created in Florida, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai. In Disneyland, Walt's apartment still stands in Main Street, U.S.A., and they have a lighted candle in the window to represent Walt's spirit. Walt's ideas and imaginations have made a huge impact on our world today, with his stories, movies, characters, theme parks, and fun. Without Walt, there would be no Disneyland, no Disney movies, no lessons learned from Disney movies, and no Mickey Mouse! And, always remember one thing: that it was all started by a mouse.
