Wilfred Grenfell

"Don't give up"

Wilfred Grenfell is known for being a doctor and also a missionary. Sir Wilfred Grenfell was a brave man that traveled the sea to help people survive. Wilfred Grenfell was born on February 28th, 1865, and died October 9th, 1940. He was born at Park Gate Hospital in Wirral, England. He ministered to the people of Newfoundland.

Sir Wilfred Grenfell moved to London in 1882. Once there he decided to study medicine. He attended London Hospital Medical College. Grenfell graduated in 1888. Grenfell moved to Newfoundland in 1892 to improve plight of oceanic animals and fishermen. He ministered to the fishermen. He was also a doctor to the fishermen. He also boarded a boat to treat the fishermen and their cuts and other injuries.

Before he moved to Newfoundland and London, he married Anne Elizabeth Caldwell MacClanahan. She originated from Chicago, Illinois. Sadly she died in 1938. They had three children together and Wilfred retired to Vermont after his job in Newfoundland. He had taken fishhooks out of eyes and so much more!!! :)

The reason I chose Wilfred Grenfell is because he loved boating. He loved helping people. I learned about him in 5th grade. He was a doctor like my uncle. He saved my great great grandma. He loved people and that is why he is my hero.
