On February 16, 1982, a star was born. Wasalu Muhammad Jaco was born into a family of nine children to Gregory, an engineer, and Shirley, a gourmet chef. They were all Muslim. Wasalu was special in several ways. He could break a couple of bones. He earned a black belt when he was ten. He originally hated hip hop because of the vulgarity and profanity. In the eighth grade, he heard the album "It Was Written" by Nas, making him want to rap.

He got his rapping name, Lupe Fiasco, from his mother calling him "Lu" from the last part of his first name. He borrowed "Lupe" from his high school friend. "Fiasco" came from the a song called "Firm Fiasco" from the group The Firm's album "The Firm Album." He said "I liked the way it looked on paper." When he was 19 years old, he and his group, Da Pak, released one single, or song, before splitting up. He signed a solo deal with Arista Records before L.A. Reid, the CEO and president of Arista Records, was fired. During this time he was featured on several singles of different people. His most known featuring was in Kanye West's "Touch The Sky." After that, he released two albums of his own.

Obviously, Lupe Fiasco is a special person with great talent. He is my hero because he doesn't rap about violence nor does he degrade women---as many other rappers do. He raps alternative hip-hop, so he raps clean. I admire him for doing so, and that is why Lupe Fiasco is my hero.
