Winfield Scott

by Matt from Wallingford

My definition for a hero- A person that is doing right and would put their life in harm's way to save the life of another.

Winfield Scott was born on a farm in Dinwiddie County near Petersburg, Virginia. He went to the college at William Mary College. After graduating he became a lawyer. Scott was known as Old Fuss and Feathers. In the war he was captured at the battle of Queenston Heights.

Winfield Scott is a hero because he fought to keep our country free. He put his life in harm's way save the life of our country and his soldiers. Scott served as an army general longer than anyone else in American history. He was a Mexican American War hero. Scott was a United States Army general.

Scott's Legacy is remember as him being a social person. He was a likable person to the people around him. Many people looked up to him as a leader and respected him. Some were scared of him but if they had to choose one person to put their life in jeopardy with it would be him.

For today's youth I think he would say to never quit. Because he was on active duty for 47 years. Another thing he would say is most likely that to help the people around you. Because he always helped the soldiers that were with and around him. That is what I believe he would say to today's youth.
