"If it was something that I really committed myself to, I don't think there's anything that could stop me becoming President of the United States." - Will Smith

When people think of a hero, they usually think of someone like Superman: someone who saves people. I think of a hero as someone who does what they can to help people in need. A hero is a person who can be looked up to and respected for being the best person they can be. That’s why my hero is Will Smith.

Willard Christopher Smith, Jr. was born September 25, 1968, in West Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He wasn’t born to the richest of families. Will was born as just a middle-class boy. His mother, Caroline, was a school administrator of the Philadelphia school board. His father, Willard Christopher Smith, Sr., was a refrigerator engineer. He also had one older sister and a younger pair of twins, one brother and one sister. Will was the second oldest of the four children. Will may have been an average child, but he was also very special. When he was young, his favorite books were Dr. Seuss books, which, as he read them more and more, helped him to develop a rhythm from the words. By the time he was 12, he was already rapping.

Since he was born, Will has done many great things with his life. He first began his career in the late 1980s as a hip-hop duo with his old school friend, Jeff Townes. This duo was known as "DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince." Will, "The Fresh Prince," was the rapping half of the duo. From there, his career took off. In 1988, they won the first ever Grammy in the Rap category.

Just a few years later, Will became even more successful, starring in the sitcom "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air." The show was extremely successful, running for six years, or six seasons with 148 episodes. It was the launch of Will’s acting career. Soon he was playing large roles in huge blockbuster movies such as "Independence Day" and "Men in Black." These were his first movies, which were very successful. He is still an actor now, has starred in many successful films, and has won many awards for them.

So you’re probably asking, "Why is he your hero?" Well, I admire Will Smith, not for being an amazing actor, but for just being the best person he can be. He has proven to the world that you can do what you want with your life. No matter what has happened to him, he has stuck with his dream. He is truly an inspiration to the world and a hero to me.
