Wayne Gretzky (I drew it) |
Wayne Gretzky was born on January 26, 1961. He was born in Brantford, Ontario, Canada. He grew up there too. He has 3 brothers and 1 sister. Their names are Keith, Glen, Brett and Kim. His parents are Phyllis and Walter Gretzky. He went to different schools when he was in elementary and middle schools. The High School that Gretzky went to was Sir James Dunn High School in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
Gretzky is my hero and a hero because he donated money to his charities and foundations. He raised over $1,000,000 for charities and foundations. He has his own charity and foundation. Wayne Gretzky is donating money for cures like that and other cures. It affected my life because I have asthma.
Gretzky practiced playing in his own yard by making his own rink. He started to play against 10 year olds when he was 6 years old. When he was 10 years old he scored 517 points in an 85 game season while playing for the Nadrofsky Steelers. At age 14, he was playing in the Junior B Hockey League in Toronto. During the two years he played with them, he got Rookie of the Year and scored 132 points in 60 games. At 17 years old, he was the youngest player to play in the World Junior Championships. In that same year, he got Canada a bronze medal, he led the tournament in scoring, and he was named to the All-Star Team. In the 1978-1979 season, he signed a contract to play on the Indianapolis Racers. After just 8 games he was traded to the Edmonton Oilers. On his 18th birthday he signed a contract with them. That year he won Rookie of the Year. He also topped the league in scoring, and he helped the Oilers win their first Stanley Cup.
Wayne inspired people to try to play hockey. He has inspired many people to become active in the hockey community. He won four Stanley Cups. I have learned that to be a hero you have to do something heroic like saving lives, donating, helping, etc.
It has inspired me that a hero is always a hero. The difference he has made in the world is that if we didn't have Wayne Gretzky, that's $1,000,000 that wouldn't have been donated.
