Wayne Gretzky, nicknamed “ The Great One,” is a master of the game of hockey. Born in Brantford, Ontario, Canada on January 26, 1961, the world would soon know who was the true master of hockey. The person behind the great mind of Gretzky was named Walter Gretzky. Wayne would marry a woman named Janet Jones. His children would be named Paulina, Tyler, Trevor, Tristan, and Emma.

Like many other great athletes, Gretzky was taught by his father at a young age. After a few years, Wayne left his home town in Brantford to begin his NHL career with the Alberta Oilers. With them he won Rookie of the Year, the Art Ross award, and four Stanley Cups. He also beat two other players' records with the most assists and points. Gretzky was traded to the Los Angeles Kings and never won another Stanley Cup. He was eventually traded to the St. Louis Blues. He didn’t seem to fit in there, so he was traded to the New York Rangers where he retired.

Gretzky had to play with more experienced hockey players that had the same skill level, so when he was about fourteen, he was playing with adults “Old enough to drink beer and drive cars,” he said. When Wayne was traded to the Los Angeles Kings from the Oilers, his fans in Canada were greatly upset. He was the youngest player to score 50 points, and was nicknamed “The great one.” Wayne had 1072 goals, 2297 assists, for a total of an amazing 3369 points. Wayne is the only player to score 200 points (goals + assists) in a season.

Wayne Gretzky is a very admirable figure in history. I, for one, admire him. Wayne has raised over $10,000 for breast cancer. His Fantasy Camp has also raised $9510.00 for tsunami relief. He has strength, because he played with people much older than him. Wayne is also very generous, obviously because of the large amounts of money he has donated to causes in need.

Wayne Gretzky is currently living and continuing his career coaching the Phoenix Coyotes. I learned one good lesson from Gretzky: you can do anything if you put your mind to it.
