Think of someone that you would call your hero. Maybe the president, or someone that only you would now like a family member or a really close friend. Well one of my hero’s is George Weah. You may not know him or ever heard of him but he is truly an amazing person; George is also one of the best soccer players there is.

George Weah was born in 1966 in Liberia; his full name is George Manneh Oppong Weah. He became the best soccer player in the world and one of the most inspirational soccer players as well. George has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 1997 and Weah returns to Liberia every three weeks to speak to kids at local camps teaching them how to live life without war and destruction. He also started a foundation to help children with disabilities.
Some of the awards that George has won are the African Player of the year 1989, 1994 & 1995. European Football Player of the Year 1995. Football Player of the Year- FIFA 1995 and the African Football Player of the Century 1998. Some of the titles are the LFA Championship 1987. Cameroon Championship 1988. French Championship 1994. French Cup winner 1991, 1993 and 1995. European Cup winner cup finalist 1992. The Italian Championship 1995 & 1999 and the English FA Cup in 2000.

If I were to describe George Weah as a hero, I would describe him as a hero for all times. George will always be one of the most inspirational soccer players as well. He has spoken to so many people on how to survive anything and those are true qualities of a real hero. I would also say that George Weah is a hero to others near and far because he has touched so many children not only in Africa but all over the world as well.
Well I hope that you would also consider George Weah a hero since you have learned some interesting facts about fascinating man, and soccer player. Just to wrap it up here are some more interesting facts that I think you would find interesting. When Liberia was at war, George led the national soccer team as a coach, star player, and sponsor. He spent more than 2 million dollars supporting every aspect of the team. Now that you have learned some new facts about this man hopefully you would put George Weah under that category of a hero.
