Wright Brothers

The Wright Brothers were heroes in many eyes across the world. Wilbur Wright was born on April 16,1867in Millville, Indiana. About four years later his little brother Orville Wright was born in Dayton, Ohio on August 19, 1871. Their parents were Bishop Milton Wright and Susan Catharine. They had seven children. There was Reuchlin, Lorin Wilbur, Orville and Katharine. In between Wilbur and Orville they had twins who past away when they were still infants.

During the Wright brothers' childhood, they were encourage to discover about their curiosity. They lived in a household that was good for them to grow up in. Their parents loved them and they were a close family. They had two libraries in their house. In the year 1900 the Wright brothers decide to take their curiosity to the next level by taking a chance at building an airplane. They decided that the best place to experiment flying was at Kitty Hawk, on the outer banks of North Carolina. Before they started with the airplane experiment, they started off with gliders to help them understand flight.

In 1901, the Wright brothers returned to North Carolina to continue their experiment on the glider. They tried many flights and many different models and many failed. Wilbur once said

"When we left Kitty Hawk at the end of 1901, we doubted that we would ever resume our experiments. Although we had broken the record for distance in gliding, and although Mr. Chanute, who was present at that time, assured us that our results were better than had ever before been attained, yet when we looked at the time and money which we had expended, and considered the progress made and the distance yet to go, we considered our experiments a failure. At this time I made the prediction that men would sometime fly, but that it would not be within our lifetime."
The glider aircraft helped them solve lift and the three axis control. In 1903, they made the first powered journey through air by adding a power plant to the glider. They understood that a propeller lifts the plane forward so they then decided to build a model with a propeller. Wilbur was the first one to take a turn at being the pilot on December 14, 1903. It was decided that he would to take the turn at flying by flipping a coin. When they took the plane to top of the hill it went back down and had many parts damaged. Two days later it was repaired but they weather that day was not good for them to do the experiment. On December 17, 1903 the winds were good and Orville would now take a turn at flying the Wright Plane. While Orville was riding the plane along the track the Wright flier lifted off the ground and flew for 12 seconds and went 120 feet and that was the first flight that actually counted. The Wrights flew three more times that day and Wilbur ended the day with a 852 feet flight in 59 seconds.

The Wright Brothers showed heroism through all the hard times they went through. They had a dream to fly and they accomplished it. They failed at attempting to make flight happen and to build an aircraft. They learned from their mistakes and made the air crafts better. When they made the first flight it didn’t just happen they had to work hard for it and try their best, to never give up! When they made the first flight they wanted to take flight to the next level and they did. Some people disagreed with flying but the Wright Brothers to lead and helped with the development of flight.

The Wright Brothers were honest, straight forward, hard working in all that they did. They were smart, they invented air crafts that flew and took of from the ground. They learned from others mistakes and their own mistakes. Dedicated was on of the most important characteristics of the Wright Brothers. When they failed, they kept trying and trying until they got it right. If they weren’t dedicated there would have been no way they would of accomplished flight. Being adventurous is a lot of fun and that what the Wright brothers were, they were adventurous. They wanted to learn about flight and accomplish flying in an aircraft.

Wilbur Wright died in Dayton, Ohio on May 30, 1912 and Orville Wright passed away on January 30, 1948. I feel that the lesson they taught was a very good one. They never gave up on what they were doing and neither should we. Having fun in what you do is important. They had hard times and yet they still kept going with what they were doing and they accomplished a great thing.
