Young Heroes

by Susannah from Sulphur

Every charitable act is a stepping stone toward heaven. - Henry Ward Beecher

Personally, I have no heroes in my life in the sense that it is someone I highly look up to or someone that inspires me to be what I want to be for the rest of my life. Though that may be true, there are people that I do believe are heroes because they have put in a lot of hard work and effort to help others in their community and around the nation. They show true selflessness. These are some people that I believe fit my description: Alexandra Scott, Calista M. Pierce, and Brandon Keefe. Not only are these people heroes, but they are also all young heroes.

Alex Scott
Alex Scott

Alex Scott is a hero because she put others before herself, even though she was battling cancer. She, at the mere age of four, decided to help the hospital that helped her by raising $2,000 for cancer research. However, this was only the beginning of her legacy. That single stand was only the first of many lemonade stands to come. Although she was going through the tough times she was going through, she still managed to hold a yearly lemonade stand to raise money for research. Amazingly, by her 8th birthday, she was able to raise a million dollars. Then sadly, shortly after she met her goal, she passed away after battling seven long years against neuroblastoma. Though she may have passed on, her amazing legacy still lives on by the help of others hosting lemonade stands. With their help they have raised over 40 million dollars which is truthfully outstanding.

Calista M. Pierce
Calista M. Pierce

Calista M. Pierce is a hero because her dream and her life are centered on helping out with the Special Olympics. Since the age of seven, she has been making arts and crafts to sell. Furthermore, since the age of five, she has known that when she is old enough to she wants to be an official volunteer for the Special Olympics. The real reason she has her mind set on this is because her brother is disabled and loves to compete. Also, she wants to help him in any way that she can. For example, right now she is trying to make her brother's wish come true since the Make a Wish Foundation is not able to grant his wish.

Hannah Taylor
Hannah Taylor

Hannah Taylor is a hero because she, at six years old, started a program called The Ladybug Foundation to help the homeless, all because a year earlier she saw a homeless man eating out of a trash can. Now, she is fifteen and has done many things for them. For example, recently she walked a mile in their shoes during -30 degree weather to help raise money for her foundation. She also helped one of her homeless friends find a job and a place to live all by giving him hope. With hope in your heart, all things are possible.

All of these kids have something in common and that is they are willing to help others. They have the will to help others, no matter the weather and no matter the day. They are willing to go the extra mile to make just one person's day better. Though the most truly amazing thing is that they all began their organizations at a very young age and have helped more people in a few short years than most humans do in a lifetime. They are truly heroes in my eyes.
