Zhuge Liang (http://news.sina.com.tw/books/history/barticle/883 ()) |
''Hero'' is someone who did extraordinarily significant and beneficial things for somebody or the world. There are lots of respectable heroes at all times and in all places. But to me, Zhuge Liang is the most respectful person in the world. He was a loyal and capable minister. Externally, trying to help his kingdom to resist other kingdoms' attacks. Internally, he assisted his kingdom to meet a better future. Furthermore, he would tell the emperor what to do and how to do straightforwardly without any euphemism. As his saying goes, ''To bend to a task and spare no effort unto his dying days.'' It's the best correspondence for him.
Zhuge Liang's reputation as an intelligent and learned scholar grew while he was living in relative seclusion in Yangdu, Langya Commandery. There is also a famous story called ''three humble visits to a thatched cottage'', telling how the Shu Han's emperor, Liu Bei, tried to convince Zhuge Liang to assist him. After this, he consented to help Liu Bei to fight among rivals for the sovereignty. He had done many incomparable contributions. In one example, in the biggest war in this period, ''the battle in Chibi'', he helped Shu Han to defeat Cao Cao, the king of Cao Wei, and gained lots of territories. Another one was the battle in Xinye. He resisted the Cao Wei to occupy the city and meanwhile helped his emperor and the residents of Fangcheng to escape. He is the greatest and most accomplished strategist I have ever seen. His continual effort and never-failing bravery inspire me. Consequently, from now on, I should invest more energy in study and don't be afraid of any failure. Maybe one day, I can be as outstanding as my hero Zhuge Liang.
