There are different definitions for the term hero. To me it’s someone that’s intelligent and has inner strength. My hero is my dog Zena. She is my hero because she almost died in March 2010. I was terrified when I got the call. I was on a break at dance, on a Saturday. I picked up the phone and it was my mom. She explained to me that the vet has to perform surgery and that Zena might not make it. I started hysterically crying. Zena was my little baby girl since I was 4. My heart would be broken to pieces if anything happened to her.

In March 2010 my dog Zena almost died. She had an illness called a Uterine Infection. When she first got sick, she started throwing up. We thought it was nothing, then it turned into a bad infection in her uterus. We took her to the vet because she was getting extremely weak and kept on throwing up. I was so devastated! The doctors gave her medicine and said they were going to perform surgery on her. When we took her back home, I started crying because she might not be there the following morning. So I kissed her goodnight and prayed that she would be there when I woke up.

The next day I woke up and I went to see if she was alive, and she was! I was so relieved. In the afternoon we took her to the vet so the doctors could perform surgery. After many, many hours, we went back to the vet and checked to see if she was okay. She looked exhausted but looked well! The doctor said she had to stay overnight to make sure she was going to be okay. At that point I had an amazing feeling that Zena was going to live after all that happened!

I've known Zena for 8 years of my life. I still remember the day she came home. I was legit obsessed with her! She was so goofy, adorable and mushy! I've had so many different memories with her! Especially when I was little. For example, When I was about 3 or 4, I had a Playhouse outside. I would always go outside and play inside of it, and Zena would follow me and poke her head through the little window! She was such a big mush and she still is. One of the worst traits about her is her farts! She doesn't even care. It'll be dead silent and all you here is her farting! It's the funniest thing! This is one of the reasons why I love her!

Fortunately, Zena is now still alive but is getting up there in age. Her hips are starting to hurt. We can see her limping once in a while. Zena still loves to play around and be a mush! I honestly wouldn't know what to do if anything happened to her! I don't want her to die anytime soon. Unfortunately, she'll have to move on one day. All I know is that I will always love her no matter whatever happens!

To wrap things up, no one will ever have a dog like Zena. No dog will ever be as silly and as much of a mush of a goofball as she is! Finally, no one will ever be as close to her best friend like I am!
