Albert Einstein

by Nicole from New York

“Imagination is more important than knowledge," Albert Einstein once said. Albert Einstein is a man with a lot of imagination and knowledge. Albert Einstein is a great man. He is smart, brave, and has done so much for us, and he has improved our technology. I truly think Albert Einstein is a real hero.

His father, Hermann, and his mother, Pauline, gave birth to Albert Einstein on March 14, 1879 in Ulm, Germany. A year later they gave birth to a little girl, Maja. Albert never liked school very much. He never paid attention, and he thought that it was boring and a waste of time. When Albert was twelve, his Uncle Jacob introduced Albert to algebra and other kinds of harder math. Also, his Uncle Jacob introduced him to geometry. In school he failed almost every subject except math and science. When Einstein was in high school, he was expelled for lack of respect for his teachers. After he was expelled, he did not go back and never finished high school. Albert never learned to drive because he thought it was too complicated and hard. All of Albert’s life he sailed. He said it is where most of his ideas came to him. When Albert was seventy-six, a blood vessel weakened and leaked. Albert was hospitalized, but soon died on April 18, 1955.

When Albert was little, he was very quiet and did not speak. This was because he had trouble putting thoughts into words. This was one of many obstacles or challenges Albert faced. As Albert Einstein was growing up, he had so many questions that no one could answer. He could not get these questions out of his head, so he had to figure them out himself, and this could sometimes get very difficult. But, because he pushed himself to figure these things out, he became a world famous scientist. With his first family, Albert had trouble balancing out his time between family and his work. That is why he got a divorce. After he became Jewish, he had to hide from the Nazis because they wanted to kill him. This was difficult to do, but after they got help from the King and Queen it was not as hard. Just before Albert died, he started to work on the unified field theory. Unfortunately, he never got the time to finish his work on this problem. On December 21, Albert’s wife died of a heart and kidney ailment. This was a very hard time for Albert because now he only had his one daughter, Margot.

Albert was a very intelligent man. He developed many equations. One very famous equation is E=MC2. Albert was a very determined man, and he never gave up. He was determined to figure out the unified field theory. When he was in the hospital dying he had someone bring him a piece of paper and a pen. When he died, next to his bed was a piece of paper with unfinished equations on them. Albert was also selfish because he was always concentrating on his work and he never had time to help Mileva take care of the kids, Hans and Edward.

Albert Einstein made many, many contributions to the world. Although some of his contributions do not seem important to us, they are important to scientists who are making the world better. Einstein proved time and space curve around the sun. For example, when you place a bowling ball (the sun) on a trampoline and put a marble (the planet) on the trampoline, the marble starts spinning around the dent the bowling ball created. The marble becomes stuck and cannot escape. He also proved that light from the stars is bent when passing close by the sun. He proved this by taking a picture of a regular night sky, and then taking another picture when an eclipse was happening. Albert observed the two pictures and came to the conclusion that his theory was right. He described space-time mathematically in ten of the hardest equations ever worked out by anyone. He solved the Brownian Motion, a question that stumped many scientists for years. The question was why little grains of pollen wouldn't stop moving when put in liquid. Albert's answer was that molecules of water were bumping into the grains of pollen, and that is what caused them to move. Not only did Einstein answer the Brownian Motion, he proved molecules exist. Albert formulated the theory of relativity. Also, one famous equation he did was E=MC2. It means energy (E) equals mass (M) times the speed of light squared (C2). This means energy can be converted into matter or matter can be converted into energy. In 1921 Albert won the Nobel Prize for physics.

Albert Einsein is a great man. He is smart, brave and has done so much for us and has improved our technology. I truly think he is a hero.
