Abraham Lincoln is an amazing role model.  He cared very much about our country, and fought for what he believed in.  He did not give up the fight. I think he fits my definition of a hero because he was determined to get the good things done.  He faced the problems head on and spread hope to the world. He also had many great accomplishments and an amazing background.

Abraham had a very challenging background.  Abraham Lincoln was born on February 12, 1809 in Hodgenville, Hardin County, Kentucky.  At a the age of 9 Abraham Lincoln's mom died, and his sister Sarah took care of him until his father remarried.  His father lost everything, and the Lincolns had to move to Indiana. He lived in a one room cabin with no heat.  After Abraham had a stepmom things were a bit better. Abraham’s step mom taught him and his sister Sarah to read, write and do math more formally then their school had.  Later Abraham got his degree to be a lawyer, even though he didn't go to college. After that Abraham got married to Mary Todd, and they later had four children together named Robert, Tad, William, and Edward.  But sadly his son Eddie died at the age of 4 from consumption. Later in life Abraham died at the Ford Theater after being shot by John Wilkes Booth.

Mr. Lincoln had many accomplishments in his life.  One being him becoming a lawyer after he didn’t go to college.  But that was one of the smaller ones of his accomplishments. The 16th president knew that slavery was WRONG and even when everyone else thought it was okay, he still knew it wasn’t. He had plans that if he won the election to make everyone's freedom equal. The southern states did not want Abe to be the president and said mean things, but he didn’t give up.  After a long fight Abraham won the election and was president from 1861-1865. During the Civil war, Lincoln lead the country through the hard times and helped stay strong. His leadership in the North helped the country to defeat the South. After the damage the South got, Abraham wanted to help rebuild, but sadly he wouldn't be alive much longer to help.

In all Mr. Lincoln was a saver for people's rights.  Throughout his life he has done many things to help the country.  Some of the reasons we are still united is because of him. From all his accomplishments and all the way to his background, that truly makes him him.  Abraham Lincoln once said, “My dream is of a place and a time where America will once again be seen as the last best hope on earth.”
