What is a hero? Is it a celebrity or a sports legend? To me a hero could be an ordinary person. A hero is someone caring, trustworthy, hard working and helpful. So, who is my hero? My hero is my aunt Aida, someone who fits all of these characteristics and more.

My aunt has always been a hard worker. She was born in Montreal, Canada in 1959. From an early age Aida was an excellent student, spending hours studying when all the other kids on the street were out playing. After finishing cegep Aunt Aida applied to many different medical schools in Canada and was accepted to all of them. She chose McGill where she studied anesthesiology. She studied internal medicine at the University of Toronto and is now also an assistant professor. Today she practices at the Montreal General Hospital where she works very hard.

Why is my aunt Aida my hero? For twelve years she dedicated all her time and effort to her studies learning as much as she could to become the best doctor possible. First she spent three years earning her bachelor of science. She then did four years of medical school, and another five years of residency. She is dedicated to her job and works nights, weekends and even holidays if she must. Aida is part of a team of doctors who help to save lives. Victims of crimes, shootings and accidents are often brought to the Montreal General Hospital, especially in the middle of the night, where my aunt Aida is usually there assisting in life saving surgeries. My aunt Aida is not only a great doctor but a loving mother of three terrific boys.

My aunt Aida is very important to me. I admire my aunt greatly, and she is a role model for me. She has shown me that with hard work a woman can make a successful and meaningful career for herself and help others. No matter how busy she is, she always has time for her family and friends. I love my aunt very much. She has accomplished a lot, and she is an admired and respected doctor.
