AMELIA EARHART

Amelia Mary Earhart was born in July 1897 in Kansas. She attended a private school. When she was 10 years old, she saw her first airplane at the lowa State Fair and she had no interest in it.

Ten years later while visiting Toronto, she became a nurse’s aid and worked at a military hospital until the end of World War I. After the war, she moved to California. By 1922 she began trying to break flight records.

On June 18, 1928, she flew across the Atlantic Ocean with two men who piloted the airplane. On May 20 1932, Amelia Earhart flew solo across the Atlantic Ocean.

She became the first woman to do this. Amelia is my hero because she was the first woman to fly across the Atlantic Ocean. She proved to the world that women can do anything men can do.
