¨Art is what you can get away with¨

Do you like drawing or painting? Well then maybe you have heard of Andy Warhol, whose real name was Andrew Warhola! He was a famous artist in the 20th century and brought more attention to art. He also enjoyed creating something called ¨pop art.¨ He had many famous paintings, but the ones that brought him the most attention were screen printed images of Marilyn Monroe, and paintings of Campbell soup cans! If you were Andy Warhol what else would you paint?

Andy Warhol was born on August 6th 1928, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to a construction worker. When he was only 8 years old he caught a liver disease that caused his limbs to sometimes spasm uncontrollably. When he was recovering his mother introduced him into drawing. And guess what? He loved it! Sadly, when he was 14 years old his father died from a liver disease. When Andy had to decide what college he was going to enroll in, he decided to go to Carnegie Mellon University… to study art!!

When Andy Warhol graduated college in 1959 he decided to move to New York to become an artist in the big city. He was very successful as a commercial artist at first! At one of his first jobs they accidently spelt his name as ¨Warhol¨ instead of ¨Warhola.¨ But he liked the new name, so he stuck with it.

Andy Warhol was even shot before he actually died. He was actually shot while on the phone by Valerie Solanas. 19 years later Andy Warhol died of arrhythmia, a heart disease that causes the heart to beat with an irregular or abnormal rhythm. Andy Warhol died on February 22nd, 1987, in New York City hospital at age 58. He lived an amazing and powerful life! Maybe you are wondering why I chose Andy Warhol as my hero. Andy Warhol is my hero because he made a giant impact on the world and the art community to have him around.

He is a great, and a powerful artist. He showed his passion and interests through art, he even expressed himself through art. I also like some of his art pieces, one of his best pieces is ¨The Banana.¨ Created in 1966 it's Andy Warhol's 10th most famous art piece.
