Arnaud Beltrame was born on 18 April 1973 in étampes, in France. He has got two brothers: Damien and Cédric. His maternal family is native from Trédion, in the morbihan, where his grand-parents were beekeepers. His parents were nurses. He was a lieutenant colonel in the French gendarmerie nationale and deputy commander of the departmentale gendarmerie's Aude unit, who was hurt by a terrorist at trèbes in a Super U after having exchanged himself for a hostage, he died the next day because of his injuries.
