Although she was born into a rich family, she did not live a life of luxury. She lived in the dirt and her city was a battlefield. During the war, “She volunteered as a nurse and is rumored to have assisted in the Resistance Movement” (Young-Brown 3). Audrey helped the troops, who were fighting the Nazis, by healing them to the best of her ability. She used basic medical knowledge to aid them in any way she could. Audrey did her best to help the Dutch Resistance in any way she could: “Her own school girl efforts on behalf of the Dutch Underground included, hiding messages in the shoes and ferrying them by bicycle” (Hepburn 5). Audrey Hepburn risked being caught for freedom. She was brave enough to do the right thing and help the resistance. She was a perfect messenger due to her age. No one would suspect a teenage girl to carry messages to resistance leaders. She did her best to help the situation at hand and did everything in her power to make life better.
