James Lance Bass

by Kaitlin from Hobart

My hero is Lance Bass. He was born on May 4th, 1979 in Laurel Mississippi. Lance is my hero because he helps people every chance he gets. His full name is James Lance Bass and he is in the music group *NSYNC. Even though he is busy selling millions of records, Lance still has time to help out children and other people less fortunate than he.

Lance manages a producing company called Freelance Entertainment. This company helps give aspiring artists a voice. This helps artists who would normally not be heard by large record companies like JIVE or Columbia Records. As you can tell, just being in the music business and going after his dreams is not enough for Lance!

He and his band mates also own a charity called “*NSYNC’s Challenge for the Children”. At this charity, the members of *NSYNC and many other celebrities compete in different games to help raise money for various children’s charities. Lance also shows a love for animals. He has participated in and supported the “Luck of The Paw” which is an animal charity event. Lance is a very kind and loving person who loves to help out and that is why he is my hero.

Lance Bass now lives in Orlando, Florida along with the rest of *NSYNC (Justin Timberlake, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick). But growing up he moved from Laurel to Clinton, Mississippi. Clinton is where he got his first start singing in church choirs. When Lance was sixteen, he got a call from his vocal coach, who recommended him to Justin Timberlake. This is when *NSYNC was formed.

Lance was also the spokesperson for space week in Houston, Texas. During space week Lance talked to younger children convincing them that science, math, and space are “cool.” Lance is a certified cosmonaut and hopes to pursue his other dream of flying into space some day! He was also just recently inducted into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame!

Actually, Lance never planned a career in singing. He wanted to go to college and get a job in the space/astronautics field. Even though Lance got called to join *NSYNC he still finished high school and college. What I really admire about Lance is that he finished his education. I think that this is one of the best features someone can have!

One of the many inspiring words of advice Lance has told his fans is “Never give up on your dreams.” This is a really important quote to me because it helps keep me going after my dreams and helps me remember I should never give up. Lance Bass is a great hero and someone I can look up to and admire.
