Benito Juarez was a Mexican president who was born March 21, 1806, in San Pablo Guelatao, Mexico. He was born to an indigenous family and spoke Zapotec in his early childhood. When he lived in Oaxaca, he lived with his sister Josefa, who worked as a servant at the house of Don Antonio Maza. He went to school at Santa Cruz Seminary School in Oaxaca. The reason why I think Benito Juarez is considered a hero is because he is a role model, he has courage and he is selfless.
Benito Juarez is a role model to me because he came from a poor family and achieved great things. To me, this means that you don’t have to necessarily be rich or have technology and all that stuff that people use these days. With just school and putting a lot of effort into it, you could achieve your goals.
I consider him courageous because after he was expelled from Mexico by Santa Anna when he returned to power, he didn’t give up. He kept on trying his hardest. He didn’t just get one thing done and then he was like, "OK, my job is done. I’m leaving." No, he kept on making things better for his people and for his country. For example, he made roads and he reconstructed the Government Palace and started high schools.
Benito Juarez was selfless to his people and his country. He fought for people's rights until they were treated properly. He didn’t give up because I think he didn’t want people to suffer the way he did when he was younger. He had to live through being cold and hungry and having to work, since he was going to support his family.
Benito Juarez accomplished many things. He made better roads, he reconstructed the Government Palace, he started high schools, and he reorganized the National Guard. He was reelected four times from January 11, 1858, through the year of 1871. Benito Juarez started out being an indigenous boy, growing up to become one of the presidents that lasted the longest, and who accomplished many things while serving office.
