They are my heroes because they raised my brother, James, my sister, Breanna, and me when our parents wouldn't. Poppa gave up retirement and went back to work at Napa so that he could support three kids that weren't even his. They spent years in and out of court making sure that we would all be safe, even if that meant they had to argue with their own daughter. They always made sure that we knew we were loved. The two of them gave up so much for the three of us when they had no obligation to. Granny taught my sister and I how to bake when we were younger and tried to teach us to sew but we were way too impatient. They dealt with our fighting, yelling, crying, and even terrible temper tantrums. When Breanna and James moved out, they were heartbroken but they never let it show. Whenever they were angry with one of our parents, they dealt with it away from us so we never saw them very angry. Poppa died in 2017, but even though she had lost her high school sweetheart and husband of 52 years, Granny made sure that I was still at school on time and got me to soccer practices. She kept going on like normal even though her whole world had changed so much in the past ten years. To me a hero isn't always someone who makes a big change in the whole world, but one that makes a good change in your own world. I will forever be grateful for the people who played the role of parents, grandparents, and best friends since I was two years old.
