Vince Carter was born on January 26, 1977. His real name is Vincent Lamar Carter. He was born in Daytona Beach, Florida. He is married to his wife, Ellen Rucker. He has a daughter named Kai who was born in June 2005. He has a mom named Michelle Carter-Robinson. He has a stepfather named Harry Robinson.

Vince Carter went to Mainland High School. He played college basketball at University of North Carolina. He then graduated from there. He played for the Golden State Warriors. Then immediately transferred to the Toronto Raptors. He won the Rookie of the Year Award for the season of 1998-1999. The next year he was selected to the All-Star Team for the first time. He showed all of his dunking abilities in the NBA slam-dunk contest. He now plays for the New Jersey Nets. (2005-2006) He has had many struggles in his life. He injured his lower back in January 2006. He strained his left Achilles on December 10th, 2004 and then again on the 17th and the 22nd. Then he got food poisoning on December 4th, 2004. He has had so many injuries, but still manages to keep up with the rest of his team.

Vince Carter demonstrated heroism when he built a pro-sized basketball court in Toronto’s Dixon Park. He also showed heroism when he still played in the NBA after he overcame many injuries. He also treated 17 children that were displaced by hurricanes Katrina and Rita. He took them all to a Toys R’ us and before that, they went out to breakfast at McDonalds.

Vince Carter reflected characteristics of a hero because he showed compassion by helping hurricane victims. He was caring because he built a gym for kids to come play in and he shows bravery because he still went out and played after being injured so many times. Vince Carter is currently playing for the New Jersey Nets. He has a wife and a daughter who was just born in 2005. Carter is now twenty-nine years old. He has a mom and a step dad.

Vince Carter’s life teaches us to follow your dreams. He made a lot of money from his career so he has helped kids that are victims of hurricanes who have no money, which teaches us to help others in need. We chose Vince Carter because we both love basketball and his stories about how he helped people in need touched us.
