Description

Edward James "Son" House Jr. (March 21, 1902– October 19, 1988) was an American delta blues singer and guitarist, noted for his highly emotional style of singing and slide guitar playing.

Son House was discovered and promoted as a young man by reigning Delta Blues king, Charley Patton. House’s style would greatly influence Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters, and later Bonnie Raitt, John Hammond, Jr. and The White Stripes.

Lyrics

Clarksdale, the town, laying heavy on my mind
Clarksdale is a town, laying heavy on my mind
I can have a good time there
And not have one lousy dime

Clarksdale, Mississippi, always gon' be my home
Clarksdale, Mississippi, always gon' be my home
That's the reason why you hear me
Sit right here and moaning

Every day in the week, I go down to Midtown
Every day in the week, I go down to Midtown Drugs
Get me a bottle of snuff and a bottle of Alcorub

Nobody knows Clarksdale like I do
Nobody knows Clarksdale like I do
And the reason I know it
I follows it through and through
