Cleopatra

by Emily

Introduction: Cleopatra was the queen of Egypt, who grew up in a palace in Alexandria, Egypt. She officially became the Queen of Egypt in 51 B.C., when her father died. Cleopatra helped many people. When she was young, she helped a Pharaoh who was sick, and in need of her help. After Cleopatra became queen, she gave food such as bread, fruit, and rice to many people who needed it during a war between Egypt and Rome. She also provided very many ships, her money, and her clothes to soldiers in the war. One Arab historian siad that Cleopatra was a "sage and a sholar," which was a very educated person. Cleopatra loved education. I decided that I wanted to Cleopatra for a biography person in school, because I liked a fiction book that I read about her in the summer of 2000. It was called: The Royal Diaries: Cleopatra VII, Princess Of The Nile

Her Life: Cleopatra was born in 69 B.C. Her name meant, "glory to her race." She was born with Roman blood and Macedonian blood, but no Egyptian blood, yet she became the queen of Egypt. She had three brothers and three sisters. Her mother died when she was very young and her father had gotten remarried. She would walk to the library almost every day, because she loved philosophy. Life was tough for her when her brothers and sisters tried to kill her to rule Egypt. In 51 B.C., her father died, and she was responsable for ruling Egypt with her brother, because her sisters were exicuted. She also met the mighty Julius Caesar from Rome. Later on, Julius Caesar crowned her the Roman goddess, Venus. In 48 B.C., she fought in a Cival war between Egypt and Rome. After fighting for many months, Rome had won the battle. In 44 B.C., Julius Caesar was murdered, by what was thought to be two of his old friends. In 43 B.C., she met the mighty Marc Antony from Egypt. They fell in love and were married in 41 B.C. In 40 B.C., Cleopatra gave birth to twins, one boy and one girl. She named the boy Alexander Helios, and the girl Cleopatra Selene. Their names meant the sun and the moon. In 36 B.C., she gave birth to her fourth and last child. It was a boy and she named it Ptolemy Philadelphus. In 31 B.C. Cleopatra and Mark Antony fought in a battle at sea. After many months, their ships were crushed. In 30 B.C., Mark Antony committed suicide. He thought that Cleopatra was dead so he told is closest servant to stab him. Scared to do so, the servant stabbed himself. Mark Antony, dissiproving, and dissipointed, stabbed himself. Hearing this, Cleopatra sent for mark Antony. Minutes later, her servants came back carrying Mark Antony, now almost dead. Cleopatra no longer had someone to protect her from Octavian, leader of the Roman Empire. She knew that if she lived, she would become Octavian's slave, so she told all of her servants to put a deadly snake, called an asp into her fruit bowl. Later on, she sent for some food. When she reached to grab a morsel of food, an asp bit her on her wrist. It slithered around her room, and bit her two servants who were with her. Later on, she and her servants died.Where She Lived: Cleopatra lived in the city Alexandria, in Egypt. She lived in a very grand palace all of her life. She never moved. She died in what was thought to be were she was born.Suggestions For More Informaion On Cleopatra: If you would like to know more about Cleopatra, I suggest reading the books, The Royal Diaries: Cleopatra VII, Princess Of The Nile, Cleopatra: Goddess Of Egypt, Enemy Of Rome
