Christine Todd Whitman

by Emily from Montvale

I believe that a hero must be a good leader, stand up for what they believe in, is able to overcome difficulties, and have determination and I believe that Christine Todd Whitman fits that description very well. Christie was born in 1946 in New Jersey. Christie became interested in government because her parents served their Republican Party in their state and county when she was a child. She graduated Wheaton College in 1968 with a major in government and later married a man named John. They later had two children who are now grown.

In 1990, Christine ran for the position of the United States senate. She lost to Senator Bill Bradly. Like my thoughts of what a hero should be the person must overcome difficulties, such as the loss and have determination. In 1994 Christine was in a political race for the position of the New Jersey governor against the unpopular, James Florio. Christie won the campaign for many reasons. One reason she won was that she promised to cut the taxes 30% over two years.

Christine was the 50th governor of the state of New Jersey and was also the first woman governor of New Jersey. Christine stood up for what she believed in and was a good leader. Those reasons are most likely why she won the race. This was her first victory in a high government position.

Later, she was asked to be on the Environmental Protection Agency by President Bush, so she resigned from the position of the New Jersey governor. President Bush would have to think that Christine was a good leader to ask her to be in such a high government position. Christine is a good leader because she held very important jobs in the government and she stood up for what she believed in because she told the citizens what she wanted to do. Christine overcame difficulties such as when she lost the race for Senate. After she lost she continued her government career which she demonstrates her determination. Christine Todd Whitman is a great role model for everyone and she lead a life and had many accomplishments that are heroic traits.
