David Witten

by Erin from Louisville

My hero is my Uncle David. He was a very special person. There was so much to like about him. Everybody liked him. He was considerate, loving, nice, funny, and a good person.

I will always remember my Uncle David because he was everything I mentioned. When I would see him, he was always so happy. He was a very funny person too. He could always make me laugh. He was my goofy uncle. He would call my Dad just to talk or would come over just to see us. My family has always been very close.

One thing I admired about him was that he didn't worry about things. He was just happy-go-lucky, and wouldn't worry about things unless they came up. He had fun. He wasn't uptight and nervous or worried. He lived his life and enjoyed it. He would always joke and have a good time.

Uncle David was the biggest U of K fan I knew. He and his sons Kyle and Andrew were all big blue fans. He and Kyle were best friends too. They would always wear their sweatshirts supporting the Wildcats. I can't remember when I didn't see him wearing one. He loved U of K just like my Papa.

My Uncle tried to make the best out of every situation. When he was killed, it was a very hard time. He was remembered and always will be by many people. It was completely unexpected when he died, and difficult for everyone. He always had many friends. And everyone thought highly of him. At his funeral, there was not enough room for everyone that came. I was told that before and during his funeral, there were so many people coming that there was traffic backed up on Bardstown Rd. just outside. People said, "Some one important must have died." And he was.
