My Hero Project Desmond Doss

Have you ever heard of Desmond Doss he was born February 7 1919 and died  March 23 2006 and joined the military on April 1 1942, Desmond Doss died at his home in Piedmont Alabama because of a respiratory ailment, Respiratory ailment is when some of your organism affects your respiratory system which causes shortness of breath. Desmond Doss was a medic during his time in the military and practiced non-violence. Desmond Doss was a very kind man. Despite his teammates harassing him about his beliefs he was still kind.

Desmond Doss would not drink, smoke, curse, eat meat, or carry a weapon no matter the situation. Desmond Doss was so committed to his beliefs he would not take out a weapon. He would put himself in such a stressful situation just to give another person time to live one more minute. For example, despite being unarmed, during the war, Desmond Doss would not hesitate to jump into the field at any moment.

Desmond Doss's father worked as a carpenter and was an alcoholic. He once tried to point a gun at his uncle but Desmond’s mother stepped in front and told him to go hide it.

Desmond’s mother was a Cradock Terry Company shoe factory worker. When Desmond Doss was 72 years old, his wife Dorothy Pauline Schuttle, died in a car accident in 1991. Desmond Doss was 87 years old when he died of tuberculosis. He spent 5 and half years in the hospital and lost a lung and 5 ribs, and survived on one lung for the rest of his life.

Desmond Doss was such a kind-hearted person that he saved 75 people alone and because of this, he was later given the Medal of Honor. One day Desmond Doss was on the field and got seriously wounded in the leg by a grenade. Instead of calling on another medic for help, he treated himself and waited five hours to be rescued, Desmond doss still very hurt went out to help more people.

I chose Desmond Doss because I think that he is such an inspiring person and saved so many people and despite everything he went through he still had hope.
