A hero should be someone who follows her/his lifelong dreams. A hero is someone who never ever gives up on what she/he wants to become in life. Heroes keep going when it gets really hard on them. Heroes always do what is right for them to get by in life.

My hero is David Lee Murphy. He is my hero because he follows his dreams. He never gave up on what he wanted to become in life. David Lee Murphy never gave up on becoming a singer when that’s what he wanted to become all along. He never gave up on singing. He writes music about real things, like family, friends, death, and love. He also writes songs for other singers about real life things, too.

David Lee Murphy was born about 46 years ago on January 7, 1959. He was born in Herrin, Illinois. Twenty-four years later, he arrived in Nashville. But, when he first arrived, he didn’t have a record label. He was a broke and struggling songwriter. David Lee Murphy said, “Even when I didn’t make that much money, I was happy because I was working toward something.”

In the fall of 1994, David Lee Murphy’s “Just Once” was picked by Tony Brown to be put on the soundtrack for "Eight Seconds," a movie with Luke Perry as a bull rider (Lane Frost). At the end of 1995, “Party Crowd” was the most popular song of the year. His number-one song was “Dust on the Bottle.” His album “Out with a Bang” was best selling album by male artist in 1995.

David Lee Murphy followed his dreams of becoming a famous country singer. He never gave up when it got tough, when he had no record label at first. David Lee Murphy did what was right for him in life so that is why he became a country singer. He never gave up on his life-long goal of becoming a country singer, even thought it got tough on him for the first couple of years he was in Nashville.
