Domenic Morse

by Andrew George from Virginia

Everyone has a hero. A hero is someone who saves you, strengthens you, or helps you. A hero can do this in many ways, either by direct communication with you, or inspiring you just through things they do. Although I didn’t speak to him much, my hero encouraged me to be the best I could be from the moment I met him. Domenic Morse is my hero because he has motivated me to achieve my goals, inspired me to make the most of my life, and taught me to value life as much as possible.

From a young age, Domenic was an achiever. An achievement that meant a lot to Domenic was his first job, working at a gym that he loved attending when he was younger. Domenic loved to go there with his friends and decided that he wanted work there. He was good friends with the owners at the gym, and they told him that once he was sixteen he could start working for them. After this, since all he could do was wait, he decided to put his focus on training. Domenic wanted to be an Olympian, and since he trained every single day, he was on track to be one. Domenic mainly focused on the trampoline aspect of gymnastics, and was very good at it. By the time he turned sixteen, and was able to work at the gym; he had earned enough money from another job to save up for his own trampoline. He applied for the job and got it. Domenic now had an obligation to be at the gym, so he was inclined to train more, and a trampoline at home. He was always training.

Domenic was very dedicated to what he did, and left an impact because of it. He was an inspiration to many, predominantly because of how passionate he was about what he did, and he eventually took it to the next level. He had a small group of people he met from his sport and would hang out with them and train. Eventually, the gym he worked at closed, and he no longer worked there. Up to this point, Domenic had been very successful and was extremely motivated. He eventually slowed down with flips and focused on school. The next chapter of his life began at UVM. He was a student there for two years. One day, a missing persons report was filed. Domenic was not seen for multiple days. I found out about this because of one of his friends posting about it on his social media. After three days with no sign of Domenic, news reports were put up about Domenic, and a “Find” page was put up on Facebook. He was later found dead in a wooded area of Vermont, police said there was “no foul play or misadventure.” Domenic was a leader to the younger people in his community, and his achievements inspired many others. Although Domenic’s life was cut short, he will always be remembered as a leader. Domenic is my hero because of his dedication to his goals, his leadership for his community, and the lesson of living life to the fullest I’ve learned from him.
