My hero is my grandpa. He was born in Gainesville, Texas. He went in the Navy in July 1952. He became a Navy Seabee that year, and worked the construction side of that unit. Later, he and two other Seabees started the underwater construction element for the divers and handled more than 500 tasks that required underwater skills. He was also instrumental in the development of the underwater swimmers school that is still in use today. Many techniques used by Navy divers today are the result of the work that was tested and improved upon by my grandpa and a handful of other divers.
