My hero is Magic Johnson. He is a famous basketball player. He had to retire after testing positive for HIV and had to quit his career! He accomplished lots of things. He faced many talented players, like Michael Jordan and lots of others.

Magic Johnson was born on August 14, 1959, in East Lansing, Michigan. He had six brothers and four sisters in his family. His dad, Earvin Johnson worked in an office. Magic's dad used to take him with him every day, until he went to college. In college, he had top grades. He was also the tallest person in his class.

In early December, he tried out for his basketball team. He got the position of point guard. He played basketball until he graduated. He left home to go to New York to try out for basketball. He didn’t make any teams. Then the coach of the Los Angeles Lakers came and gave him a spot on the team.

Magic Johnson became the Most Valuable Player of his time. He was given the MVP award three times; in 1980, 1982 and 1987. Magic Johnson took the Lakers to five championships. He had a lot of accomplishments until November 7, 1991. That's when he announced that he was HIV positive and that he would be retiring.

Earvin Johnson JR was a great basketball player. He still does many different things. He still likes basketball. This is a great hero because of the great things that he is doing and did. Magic Johnson inspires us all because of his great deeds. He has already donated thousands of dollars to the victims of Katrina. Magic Johnson is a great hero and I would like to be like this hero any day. I hope that I will be like this hero when I grow up.
