Eleanor Roosevelt

by Manca Trček from Slovenia

Eleanor Roosevelt was active in the first half of the 20th century. She was married to Franklin Delano Roosevelt, who became president of USA in 1933. They were and still are worthy of respect, but I chose Eleanor because it was unusual for a woman to have that big of a voice an influence at that time. At first she was seen as a very controversial because woman of her outspokenness, especially on her stance on racial issues and feminism.

If I were to write all her achievements, this entry would be quite long so I’ll just say this, Eleanor Roosevelt has been an inspiration of mine ever since I first heard about her from my primary school history teacher, she is my hero because she was fearless, truthful and she practiced what she preached and stood her ground no matter what and I hope that one day I’ll be fraction of a person that she was.

She is important to me because she didn’t care what anybody thought about her and spoke her mind no matter her position as a woman in the middle of the 20th century, she inspired women then and she is still doing that today. I am very passionate about equal rights from a gender and racial point of view and so was she, but she actually used her position, spoke her mind and made a difference.
