Florence Nightingale

Florence Nightingale was born on May 12, 1820 in Florence, Italy. She died on August 13,1910 in London in her bed, at her house during a long peaceful sleep.


Miss Nightingale was a nurse. Her main contribution was making hospitals clean and efficient. Florence Nightingale also trained nurses to give good care to the soldiers and others. Many nurses today are inspired by Ms. Nightingale's pioneer work.


The Florence Nightingale Pledge.


I solemnly pledge myself before God and presence of this assembly; To pass my life in purity and to practice my profession faithfully. I will abstain from whatever is deleterious and mischievous and will not take or knowingly administer any harmful drug. I will do all in my power to maintain and elevate the standard of my profession and will hold in confidence all personal matters committed to my keeping and family affairs coming to my knowledge in the practice of my calling. With loyalty will I endeavor to aid the physician in his work,and devote myself to the welfare of those committed to my care.

Florence had major breakdowns during her life. Florence sailed to Turkey, Scutari for the hospital base during the Crimea war. She made the hospital clean and well kept. Her carrier was making hospital's cleaner and wrote books on nursing and hospital's. She wrote books because to help people be more careful on nursing and hospitals. After Florence had a sickness it left her very weak. She would only see people by appointment.
