This is a poem about Vel Phillips. She is a well known hero in Milwaukee because she diligently fought for equal rights. She not only fought for equality among races, but she also had a strong belief in equality for genders. Vel Phillips is a hero to many people because she continued fighting no matter what got in her way. She faced many challenges, yet she continuously overcame them. Many of us honor her name as well as the history she made.
