My hero is Cathy Freeman. A tattoo on her right triceps reads, “Cause I’m free.” Aren’t we all?

She was born on February 16, 1973. Cathy Freeman was the first Australian Aboriginal track and field athlete to represent her country at the Olympics. She won the silver medal in the 1990 Atlanta Olympics and won gold in the 2000 Sydney Olympics. She has been awarded Australian of the Year. However, this only shows a fraction of her talent. Many athletes around the world recognize her as a champion.

On July 15, 2003, Cathy Freeman announced her retirement from competitive running, but she is still one of the fastest women in the world. In 2004 she had a commentary seat at the Sydney Olympics. She also was the person who lit the Olympic flame in the opening ceremony. Since retiring, Kathy has been taking it a bit easier, but she still trains, but not as much. She has been eating what she wants, but not too much. She’s having fun and enjoying life as a normal person, but knowing she is still special. She is still recognized as an Australian hero by many people around the world, including myself.
